The MMRV vaccine is a combination of the MMR (Measles-Mumps-Rubella) vaccine and the Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine. Both vaccines are made by the same company and are unchanged in their combined form. The combined vaccine was approved by the FDA in September 2005. It can be used at both the initial series (12-15 months) and the booster doses at age 4-6 years. Since there is a new recommendation for a varicella booster dose at age 4-6 years, the vaccine will be very useful for that dose. For more information, see the information on the individual vaccines.
