What’s NEW in hospital care
There have been many changes in hospital care for newborns in recent years. They may seem new since you had your last child; they may definitely seem new to many grandparents. They are research-based, evidence-based care, and the best care currently available. They include:
delayed cord clamping
skin-to-skin care after delivery
breastfeeding in the delivery room
delayed measurements and treatments during skin-to-skin care
rooming-in
delayed bath
New screenings include:
hearing screening for all newborns
jaundice risk screening
newborn screening for many more diseases
heart disease screening
You may need to check if these are currently practiced by your OB and in your birth hospital.
There are also new evidence-based guidelines for induction of labor and when to perform C-sections that are safer for mom and baby.
