The FDA has approved Lamisil Oral Granules to treat ringworm of the scalp in children ages 4 and up. Scalp ringworm (tinea capitis) is a common but often difficult to treat infection in children. The drug in Lamisil, terbinafine, has been shown to be effective for scalp ringworm. However, it was only available in tablet form. The FDA actually approached the maker of the drug and requested a pediatric formulation. The granules can be sprinkled on food. It is still unclear when the drug will be available on the market.
