The FDA has recalled Hyland’s Teething Tablets due to a poisoning risk to children. The tablets are supposed to contain an undetectable amount of the drug belladonna, which is dangerous at larger doses. The FDA found that the tablets contain an inconsistent amount of the drug. There have been reports of serious side effects of these tablets in children. There have also been overdoses due to the lack of a child-proof cap.
Most people these days seem to be unaware of the true nature of homeopathic medications, thinking that it means natural or herbal. This is not correct. The theory of homeopathy is to give poisonous, toxic substances to the body that cause the same symptoms that the person has. This will energize the body to fight the symptoms and its cause. The poison is given in such small doses that it is not harmful; in fact, often chemical tests cannot even detect the active poisonous ingredient that is supposed to be present. True homeopathy also involves shaking the medicine, activating the vital force to release the spiritual, healing essence of the medication so it will be effective. Some believe that the water molecules “remember” the presence of the poison and so are changed to cause the symptoms in the person who takes the medication.
Belladonna, or deadly nightshade, is one of the most poisonous plants. Two to five berries will kill a child, and 10-20 will kill an adult. It has been used for suicide and murder over the centuries. We do get several very powerful and dangerous drugs from the plant. This is the active homeopathic ingredient in Hyland’s Teething Tablets.
It is very concerning, given that the theory of homeopathy involves giving very small doses of poisons, that the company would manufacture tablets with higher, dangerous doses of the poison. Perhaps if more people understood the true nature of homeopathic medicines, they would not be so popular.
