Already this year, the FDA has approved three oral immunotherapy tablets for ragweed and grass allergies. In a new study of daily oral immunotherapy for house dust mite allergy, the treatment was effective after about four months, and after one year of therapy, the effects lasted for at least one additional year.
House dust mites are difficult to avoid and expensive to control. Of course, it is pretty difficult to avoid pollen too; however, house dust mite sufferers typically have symptoms all year long. We may soon see the FDA approve yet another oral immunotherapy agent for the treatment of allergies.
